Lakewood, Colorado, is a vibrant city known for its mix of outdoor recreation, cultural attractions, and proximity to Denver. Here are some interesting facts about Lakewood:

Gateway to the Rockies – Lakewood sits just west of Denver, making it a prime location for those who love both city life and easy access to the Rocky Mountains for hiking, skiing, and camping.

Historical Roots – Originally settled in the late 1800s as an agricultural and ranching community, Lakewood remained unincorporated until 1969, making it one of Colorado’s newer large cities.

Abundance of Parks and Open Spaces – The city has over 80 parks, including William F. Hayden Green Mountain Park, which features stunning views and miles of hiking and biking trails, and Bear Creek Lake Park, a hotspot for fishing, paddle boarding, and horseback riding.

Cultural and Artistic Hub – The 40 West Arts District is one of Colorado’s Certified Creative Districts, featuring colorful murals, art galleries, and community-driven cultural events. The Lakewood Cultural Center hosts performances, exhibits, and art workshops year-round.

Belmar – Lakewood’s Downtown Alternative – Instead of a traditional downtown, Lakewood features Belmar, a lively mixed-use district with shopping, dining, entertainment, and a seasonal ice-skating rink.

Outdoor-Friendly Lifestyle – In addition to parks and trails, Lakewood promotes outdoor living with golf courses, dog parks, and sports facilities, catering to active residents and visitors alike.

Denver Federal Center – Home to the Denver Federal Center, Lakewood houses one of the largest concentrations of federal offices outside of Washington, D.C., with over 6,000 employees across various agencies.

With its combination of nature, culture, and suburban convenience, Lakewood is a great place to explore or call home.
